“Song of the Frontier” is an ancient pipa music. This recording is a special piece using a Ching Dynasty pipa. The performer – LI Guang-zu was the son of the great pipa master LI Ting-song. This recording was a precious combination of famous song, famous artist and famous instrument.
“Zhong Hua Liu Ban” is one of the most famous Jiangnan traditional music. This version was played by the 4 renowned masters – LU Chun-ling (dizi), Zhou Hui (Yangqin), MA Sheng-long) and ZHOU Hao(erhu).
“Ospreys Sporting with Water” is one of the most famous piece in Chao Zhou. This duet was recorded by two great Chao Zhou music master – CHEN Lei-shi (Zheng) and ZHENG Si-sen (pipa).
“Suzhou Tune” is a piece showing the taste of Suzhou local opera music. This recording was played by the renowned brothers – LUI Chun-yuan (Sanxian) and LUI Pui-yuan (pipa)
CHI is a Chinese bamboo flute which is not often used. In this Chi & Qin duet - “Memories of an Old Friend”, Chi showed its special sound and features which is unique in the bamboo instrument family.
Soft Bow Jinghu is a very special bow instrument.
The bow is very loose and soft and needs special technique in playing. This piece “Birds’ Sound in Flower Shrub” fully express the special technique and features of the Soft Bow Jinghu.
A giant bamboo Xiao was made by TAM Bao-shuo (Xiao master in Hong Kong), and a song named “Melody of Giant Xiao” was specially written for this big Xiao by CHEN Zhong-shen (Xiao master in Taiwan). Together with Zhang Wei-liang (Xiao master in China) and ZHU Zhao-wei (Xiao master in Hong Kong), 4 masters played this song in a ROI concert successfully in 2000.
XUN is special wind instrument made by potter’s clay with a grieving sound. The famous Cantonese music “Flowing Water and Moving Cloud” is well expressed by this special instrument.
