漢樂箏家羅九香，一九○二年六月十九日出生於廣東省大埔縣石雲區楓朗鄉一商賈之家，一九七八年六月九日病逝於家鄉大埔。一九二三年，羅九香在廣德學校任教期間，常見一背負古箏之盲藝人，為其所奏之箏樂而動心，遂拜其為師。一九二五年起，又師從廣東漢樂前輩何育齋習箏，達五年之久。其間，羅氏常與門生饒淑樞（提胡）、饒叢舉（揚琴）、饒畢初（琵琶）、饒托生（笛），何少卿（箏）、羅及時（簫）等人「和弦子」（合樂），演奏曲目多為何育齋「搜羅考訂」之「中州古調」及「漢臯舊譜」六十首中的樂曲。一九五九年，羅氏應聘到天津音樂學院任教漢樂古箏。一九六○年九月，轉入廣州音樂專科學校專任古箏教師，直至逝世前夕。
LUO Jiu-xiang
LUO Jiu-xiang was born on June 19,1902 in Dabu, Guangdong province and passed away of illness on June 9, 1978 in his hometown. In 1923, when he was a teacher in Guangdong, he loved the zheng music and learned it from a blind artist. In 1925, he further studied the zheng under the famous master HE Yu-zhai of Guangdong Hanyue for five years. During this period, he was used to play in ensemble with RAO Shu-shu (tihu), RAO Cong-ju (yangqin), RAO Bi-chu (pipa), RAO Tuo-sheng (dizi), HE Shao-qing (zheng) and LUO Ji-shi (xiao) on the sixty ancient melodies passed down by HE Yu-zhai. In 1959, he was appointed by the Tianjin Conservatory to teach the zheng of Guangdong Hanyue. In September of 1960, he was transferred to Guangzhou Conservatory to teach zheng music until his death.
