Bangzi Tune   Shanxi Bangzi melody  compiled by FENG Zi-cun

This is a characteristic solo piece for bangdi (piccolo flute). It originates from a fixed tune in traditional operas of northern China and was used as an intermezzo. The melody is bright and elegant. It is divided into four parts and all of them have different rhythm, tempo and dynamics. It also utilizes techniques such as grace notes, portamento, glissando, flattering tongue, flying fingering and trill. The variation, full of regional colour, is done within the framework of the theme in a free and through manner, as if the gate towards the soul was opened and feelings poured out profusely.

The Cowherd and Village Girl   traditional melody  adapted by LIU Sen

This piece was adapted from a folk music and dance with the same title, which was popular in Hebei Province. It was used as an antistrophic melody singing by a girl and a young boy, describing an interesting scene that a cowherd creates difficulties for a village girl when she ask the way. The melody has a profound folk style and presents the happiness and naivety of young people.

The music was composed in 1963, It was intended to present a scene of prosperity, richness and mightiness of the country, solidarity and striving of the people; fruitfulness in everywhere and good news from north to south of the country.

At the Broken Bridge   composed by JIANG Xue-shang, GU Sheng-an, ZHAN Yong-ming

This piece was composed based on elements from the Zhejiang opera Story of the White Snake. The composers use the alternate phrases of the low-pitched qudi and the high-pitched bangdi to depict the meeting of BAI Su-zhen and XU Xian at the broken bridge. The music was composed in rich local opera style. The audience can experience their persistent love story.

Crooning in Clear Night   ancient melody  adapted by ZHANG Wei-liang

This piece was composed in 1986, according to XiangshanYelu and other ancient books, it was one of the ten tunes in Gong Mood composed by HE Ruo-bi of the Sui dynasty, and was popular in Song dynasty. It is said that the tune was created according to a poem written by SU Dong-po. It is a poem about a lonely man softly crooning in the cool wind and the moonlight.

Birds in the Forest      composed by LIU Guan-yue

This piece was composed according to the folk tune of Hebei province in 1950s. Using many dizi skills to imitate the warble of most flying birds lively, the composer presented a picturesque scenery, implied the freedom and happiness in the life.

Look in Relatives by Marriage    compiled by LIANG Pei-yin

This piece was originated from a popular folk instrumental music of Hebei Province. It describes a scene that a joyful farmer goes into city from country to look in relatives by marriage, with autochthonism and chicken, duck, fruit and vegetables in his hands.

Yesterday and Today    composed by LU Chun-ling

This piece was composed in 1957, reflected people’s deeply love to China by contrasting the new life to life of the old days. The music is divided into three parts. The first part is right after a lyric prelude, present people’s eulogy of new life by a bright melody. The second part demonstrates a depressive, grieving and angry mood, a memorial and narrative melody to tell the painful life of the old days. Then, as the music develops, a passionate mood, represent people’s fight against the bad ones and finally win the battle. The third part is again a eulogy of better life, determined in mood and ends in the melody of happiness.

《姑蘇行》       江先渭曲

Travel in Suzhou    composed by JIANG Xian-wei

This piece was composed in 1960 according to Kun Opera music. The gentle prelude of the first part reveals the pavilions in the foggy morning. The second part is a mild andante, which describes the beautiful scene of parks of Suzhou. The third part is an allegretto, which shows the excitement and joyfulness of the visitors. The last part reveals the theme again, which describes the happiness of the visitors.

The Flying Partridge   Hunan melody   passed down by ZHAO Song-ting

        The melody of this piece is a popular folk music in Hunan province, it was adapted into a dizi solo by the dizi virtuoso ZHAO Song-ting. The body movements and postures of a partride from take off to wooping in the sky are described. In observing the flying of a bird, a yearn for freedom and liberty, a happy life is created.

Three, Five, Seven  Zhejiang opera music  adapted by ZHAO Song-ting

The music comes from a section called Three, Five, Seven in Zhejiang opera music, in which the dizi is the major accompanying instrument. ZHAO Song-ting adapted the music as a piece for dizi solo with the same title. The tune is flowing and simple, and you can smell the air of life in Zhejiang in the music. It makes use of many special techniques on the dizi to intensify the dramatic effects.

Make Up Immortal    composed by CHEN Chung-sheng

        In the early 1940s, Bei Guan music is very popular in Taiwan. Nearly every village has two or more Bei Guan Orchestra. When performing on the celebration, temple fair, marriage, burial and birthday party, the whole village sank in the loud, sonorous and happy music atmosphere. When Bei Guan performed, they made up immortal first, then play a human story. So called ‘make up immortal’ was that the performers made up immortals who come to the human world together to celebrate the happiness of human beings, such as birthday and success. This piece was completely composed in June 2, 1991, named Make Up Immortal. That was not because of the composer used the traditional musical elements of Bei Guan music. However, he used the diagram and snippet of dizi and suona performing in Bei Guan music, and developed them. He also used a paragraph of it too.

Overjoyed was drawing on the resources from Wu opera of Zhejiang province, and experimenting with a variety of techniques from northern dizi style such as “Puffing”, “Twitching” and “Tinkling” the piece presents a little musical narrative of the farmers working contentedly in the field.








《秋辭》樂曲創作中運用了浪漫主義的手法和樂觀向上的精神奏出了劉禹錫《秋詞》“自古逢秋悲寂寥,我言秋日勝春朝。晴空一鶴排雲上,便引詩情到碧霄。” 富有哲理的想象和奮發向上的情趣。






















































































又名《七眼板》,是由《中花六板》放慢加花而成,樂曲謐靜雅致,富有韻律。演奏此曲沉洋舒泰,具有深厚的 “江南絲竹” 功力,始能勝任。
