萧白墉,一九四一年三月,出生于上海一个医生家庭,原籍广东潮阳,儿时喜好二胡,亦奏小提琴。一九五九年,考入上海民族乐团学馆,师从项祖英习二胡,后又随刘明源习板胡,得蒋风之、卫仲乐及何彬等人指导。一九六三年五月,参加第四届“上海之春”全国首届二胡比赛,获二等奖及新作品演奏奖。一九七九年起,任上海民族乐团二胡首席二十馀载。一九八七年,获中央文化部审批为国家一级演员及尖子演员,一九八九年,移居香港,后迁台湾。在此期间萧氏为一自由业者,除教学外,亦有多种演奏活动与应邀录制唱片多辑。

XIAO Bai-yong

           XIAO Bai-yong was born in March 1941 in Shanghai and his ancestral home was in Chaoyang, Guangdong province. He loved to play the erhu and violin since he was young. In 1959, he was admitted to the attached school of the Shanghai Traditional Orchestra learning the erhu under XIANG Zhu-ying. He was also instructed by the famous musicians LIU Ming-yuan, JIANG Feng-zhi, WEI Chung-loh and HE Bin. In 1963, he was selected to participate in the 4th Shanghai Spring Festival’s national erhu competition. He won the second prize and the outstanding new work performance prize. In 1979, he was appointed as the erhu leader of the Shanghai Traditional Orchestra for more than twenty years. In 1987, he was selected and was appointed to be the national first class performer by the Central Cultural Department of China. In 1989, he migrated to Hong Kong and later settled in Taiwan.
