鮑元愷,作曲家、音樂教育家。歷任天津音樂學院作曲系主任,台灣南華大學教授,廈門大學特聘教授、藝術研究所所長。1944年,出生於北京市。1957年,就讀於中央音樂學院附中;1961年,從蘇夏教授學習作曲;1962年,保送升學進入中央音樂學院作曲系,師從蘇夏、楊儒懷、陳培勳、段平泰;1967年,畢業於中央音樂學院作曲系;1973年,到天津音樂學院任教;1991年,就任天津音樂學院教授;2005年,為廈門大學特聘教授,現任廈門大學藝術研究所所長、廈門愛樂樂團藝術顧問、廈門演藝協會藝術顧問。歷任中國音樂家協會創作委員會副主任、《音樂研究》編委、金鐘獎音樂作品評委。2005年,獲文化部「區永熙優秀音樂教育獎」、2012年,獲廈門大學「南強傑出貢獻獎」。他堅持「人寫,寫人,為人寫」的創作原則,把「以西方音樂形式展現中國傳統音樂」作為創作重點。代表作有《京劇》、《燕趙》等六部交響曲,《炎黃風情——中國民歌主題24首管弦樂曲》、《華夏弦韻》室內樂集、清唱劇《禹王》、童聲合唱套曲《四季》、《景頗童謠》等。其作品頻繁由國內外交響樂團演出,成為演出率最高的中國管弦樂作品,並由多家機構出版成唱片。鮑元愷從教四十餘年,他的部分作品被選入中國大陸的中小學,各個年級的音樂課本,作為欣賞教材。他的許多學生已經成為蜚聲樂壇的作曲家或教育家。

BAO Yuan-kai (1944–)
BAO Yuan-kai is a composer and music educator. He has served as the head of the Composition Department at Tianjin Conservatory of Music, a professor at Nanhua University in Taiwan, a distinguished professor and director of the Institute of Art at Xiamen University. He was born in Beijing in 1944. In 1957, he studied at the Central Conservatory of Music Middle School. In 1961, he began studying composition with Professor SU Xia. In 1962, he was admitted to the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, where he studied under SU Xia, YAng Ru-huai, CHEN Pei-xun, and DUAN Ping-tai. He graduated from the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in 1967. In 1973, he started teaching at Tianjin Conservatory of Music and became a professor there in 1991. In 2005, he became a distinguished professor at Xiamen University and currently serves as the director of the Institute of Art, artistic advisor to the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, and artistic advisor to the Xiamen Performing Arts Association. He has served as the deputy director of the Composition Committee of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, editor of “Music Research”, and judge for the Golden Bell Award for music compositions. In 2005, he received the Ministry of Culture’s “Outstanding Music Education Award” and in 2012, he received the “Nanqiang Award for Outstanding Contributions” from Xiamen University. He adheres to the creative principle of “composed by the people, about people, and for the people” and focuses on “presenting Chinese traditional music through Western musical forms” in his compositions. His representative works include six symphonies such as “Peking Opera” and “Yan Zhao,” the orchestral suite “Flavor of Yan Huang – 24 Orchestral Pieces on Chinese Folk Song Themes,” the chamber music collection “Chinese String Rhythms,” the cantata “King Yu”, the children’s choir suite “Four Seasons” and “Jing Po Children’s Songs” among others. His works are frequently performed by orchestras both in China and abroad and have become the most performed Chinese orchestral compositions. Many of his works have been published as recordings by various institutions. BAO Yuan-kai has been teaching for over forty years, and some of his works have been included in music textbooks for primary and secondary schools in mainland China as listening materials. Many of his students have become renowned composers or educators in the music industry.
