中国少年弹拨乐团及中国少年弓弦乐团建立于一九九七年，是由中国音乐学院附中十二至十七岁的优秀学生为主体并聚集校内外一批一流的艺术家组成，由中国音乐学院教授刘德海任艺术总监，并邀得一大批著名的作曲家、指挥家和热心于民族音乐教育和发展的人士参加创作与排练。
乐团以教育为先导，以继承为己任；以创新为命脉，力图通过创作的多元、演奏形式的多样、音响声源的开发再塑，体现民族音乐的生机与时代的召唤。
乐团几年来参加了中央电视台的新春民族音乐会，在北京音乐厅推出了多台不同形式与内容的音乐会，应邀赴山西举办庆祝建国五十周年专场音乐会，并参加了中、德、奥三国在北京故宫午门举办的“音乐家舞台”大型电视音乐会和香港凤凰卫视五周年庆典音乐会，又赴韩国参加“中韩交流音乐会”及赴深圳、香港等地演出。
Chinese Youth Plucked-String Orchestra This was a combined orchestra of the. best performers and students from 12 to 17 years old in the China Conservatory. It was founded in 1997. Under the artistic directorship of LIU Dehai, support from famous composers and conductors, the orchestra was growing up rapidly.
The aim of the orchestra is mainly educational, creative in various aspects so as to inherit the past and build up a future of the folk music.
It has held a sery of successful concerts and visited some countries in the past years.
