In 1944, he was admitted to the Northwest Conservatory of Xian majoring in violin. In 1949, he was transferred to the Central Conservatory in Beijing and further studied the violin. He also studied <em>yangqin<\/em> and <em>gaohu<\/em> on Cantonese music under famous virtuoso FENG Yong-kang. In 1950, he graduated in Central Conservatory and became a teacher of the conservatory. In 1953, he developed the 1<sup>st<\/sup> set of grand <em>yangqin<\/em> in chromatic scale of four octaves in China. In 1961, he was transferred to the Tianjin Conservatory until his retirement.
