When he was six, he started to learn the <em>erhu<\/em> and other traditional instruments from his father. In 1958, he was admitted to the affiliated secondary school of Nanjing Arts Academy. In 1961, he admitted his university course in the academy and learning the <em>erhu<\/em> under GAN Tao, MA You-de, QU An-hua and the <em>pipa<\/em> under CHENG Wu-jia. In 1963, he worked in an art unit in Guangdong. In 1964, he was transferred to the Song and Dance Troupe of the Chinese People\u2019s Liberation Army Missile Forces Department and further studied the <em>erhu<\/em> and <em>zheng<\/em> from CHEN Zhen-duo, CHEN Chao-ru, LIU Ming-yuan and CAO Zheng. In 1976, he composed the famous <em>erhu<\/em> piece <em>The Battle-Horses Galloping<\/em> by using many new techniques of his discovery.
