浙江省民間歌舞團民族管弦樂隊創建於一九五七年五月，最初的成員是從全省民間業餘歌舞匯演中挑選出來的民間樂師。有的畢業於中央和上海音樂學院，有的長期從事民族音樂事業，具有豐富的理論知識和實際演奏經驗的老樂手，還有既能作曲、又能獨奏和演奏、技術全面，藝術上有一定造詣。在樂隊中擔任主要工作的業務骨幹，該隊不少演奏員和演奏的作品曾在全國和全省舉辦的各種比賽中獲獎，浙江歌舞團民族管弦樂隊實力雄厚、陣容整齊，現已成為有近三十名演奏員，在國內外享有盛譽的一個優秀的民族管弦樂隊。
三十年來，樂隊堅持走民族化的道路，致力於民族、民間音樂的研究、發展、挖掘和整理的工作，創作和改編了一批優秀的民族器樂作品、吹打合奏《將軍得勝令》、《漁舟凱歌》、小合奏《婺劇音樂聯奏》、二胡曲《挑起擔子幹得歡》、《水鄉小唱》、笛子曲《早晨》、《三五七》、《水鄉船歌》等在全國都有極廣泛的影響。還整理、改編和演奏《江南絲竹》，既保持了原有的風格、特色，又賦予了新的精神面貌，聽後使人耳目一新。
樂隊的節目在全國各大城市和全國各地的演出中，深受廣大觀眾喜愛。大部分演奏家曾多次出訪阿爾及利亞、埃及、贊比亞、摩洛哥、巴基斯坦、前蘇聯、日本、美國、西德等十幾個國家，受到高度讚賞。
Zhejiang Folk Music and Dance Troupe It was founded in 1957. In the beginning, most members were performers selected from amateur functions in different districts of the provicne. Gradually professional performers from the Central conservatory and Shanghai Conservatory, performers who had worked in this music career for a long time, performers with rich music knowledge and actual experience joined. Hence the orchestra became a very strong team and won good fame in the field.
In the past 50 years, it insisted to follow the folk and traditional route and spent much effort in the research, development of the folk music. A large number of famous works were produced such as the “Triumphant Song of Fishermen”and many other orchestral and solo pieces. It has’ became one of the most popular orchestra in China and some of their members had performed overseas with outstanding recognition.
