葉小鋼，作曲家、教育家。曾任中國文聯副主席、中國音樂家協會主席、全國政協常委及委員、國際音理會副主席、美國藝術與科學院外籍院士、英國北方皇家音樂學院國際作曲主席、烏克蘭柴可夫斯基音樂學院名譽教授、中央音樂學院教授、現任香港中文大學（深圳）音樂學院院長。1955年9月23日，出生於上海，原籍廣東；4歲開始學鋼琴，稍長遭下放，當過金鉗工；1978年，考入中央音樂學院作曲系，與譚盾、郭文景、陳怡、陳其鋼、劉索拉等人是同學，師從作曲家杜鳴心；1980年，往英國劍橋大學，在亞歷山大•戈爾作曲班進行短期學習；1981年，在中央音樂學院禮堂舉辦了他的第一場個人作品音樂會；1984年，參加新蘭的亞大地區藝術節及作曲家大會；1985年，完成了《地平線》的創作；1987年，在當了四年中央音樂學院的教師後，以獎學金赴伊士曼音樂學院學習，７年後繼續任教中央音樂學院。其主要作品包括：第二交響曲《地平線》、《長城交響曲》、《第一小提琴協奏曲》、《最後的樂園》、《八匹馬》、《馬九匹》、《大劇院序曲》、《驚濤駭浪》、《半生緣》、《玉觀音》、《大國崛起》……等等。葉小鋼榮獲過眾多國內外獎項和榮譽，包括中宣部「五個一工程」獎、文化部「文華音樂獎」、中國音樂家協會「金鐘獎」一等獎、2012年美國古根海姆基金作曲家大獎、2013年第二屆「中華藝文獎」等。葉小鋼一直為音樂普及、全國範圍的美育教育呼籲，敦促國家加大對藝術的投入、對外文化交流、推進國際知識版權在中國的保護。
YE Xiao-gang (September 23, 1955 – )
YE Xiao-gang is a composer and educator. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chairman of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, Standing Committee Member and Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman of the International Society for Contemporary Music, Foreign Associate of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, International Chair of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in the United Kingdom, Honorary Professor at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, and currently serves as the Dean of the School of Music at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
Ye was born in Shanghai, China, on September 23, 1955, and his ancestral home is in Guangdong. He began learning the piano at the age of four but was later sent to the countryside during the Cultural Revolution and worked as a metalworker. In 1978, he was admitted to the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, where he studied alongside classmates such as TAN Dun, GUO Wen-jing, CHEN Yi, CHEN Qi-gang, and LIU So-la. He studied under composer DU Ming-xin. In 1980, he went to the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom for a short-term study program with composer Alexander Goehr. In 1981, he held his first solo concert of original compositions at the Concert Hall of the Central Conservatory of Music. In 1984, he participated in the Asian Arts Festival and Composers’ Conference in Xinlan. In 1985, he completed the composition “Horizon”. In 1987, after teaching at the Central Conservatory of Music for four years, he received a scholarship to study at the Eastman School of Music for seven years before returning to teach at the Central Conservatory of Music.
His major works include the Second Symphony “Horizon”, “The Great Wall Symphony”, “Violin Concerto No. 1”, “The Last Paradise”, “Eight Horses”, “Nine Horses”, “Overture of the Grand Theater”, “Stormy Waves”, “Half a Lifelong Romance”, “Jade Guanyin”, “The Rise of a Great Nation”, and more. YE Xiao-gang has received numerous awards and honors both domestically and internationally, including the “Five One Project” Award from the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, the “Wenhua Music Award” from the Ministry of Culture, the first prize of the “Golden Bell Award” from the Chinese Musicians’ Association, the 2012 Guggenheim Fellowship for Composers, the 2nd China Arts Award in 2013, and others. Ye has advocated for music popularization and nationwide arts education, urging the government to increase investment in the arts, promote cultural exchanges, and advance the protection of international intellectual property rights in China.
