中國少年彈撥樂團及中國少年弓弦樂團建立於一九九七年，是由中國音樂學院附中十二至十七歲的優秀學生為主體並聚集校內外一批一流的藝術家組成，由中國音樂學院教授劉德海任藝術總監，並邀得一大批著名的作曲家、指揮家和熱心於民族音樂教育和發展的人士參加創作與排練。
樂團以教育為先導，以繼承為己任；以創新為命脈，力圖通過創作的多元、演奏形式的多樣、音響聲源的開發再塑，體現民族音樂的生機與時代的召喚。
樂團幾年來參加了中央電視台的新春民族音樂會，在北京音樂廳推出了多台不同形式與內容的音樂會，應邀赴山西舉辦慶祝建國五十周年專場音樂會，並參加了中、德、奧三國在北京故宮午門舉辦的「音樂家舞台」大型電視音樂會和香港鳳凰衛視五周年慶典音樂會，又赴韓國參加「中韓交流音樂會」及赴深圳、香港等地演出。
Chinese Youth Plucked-String Orchestra This was a combined orchestra of the. best performers and students from 12 to 17 years old in the China Conservatory. It was founded in 1997. Under the artistic directorship of LIU Dehai, support from famous composers and conductors, the orchestra was growing up rapidly.
The aim of the orchestra is mainly educational, creative in various aspects so as to inherit the past and build up a future of the folk music.
It has held a sery of successful concerts and visited some countries in the past years.
